Sonata No 8 (Pathetique)
Second Movement Ludwig Von Beethoven |
Some people consider this to be the greatest melody that Beethoven ever wrote (and the harmony isn't bad either). However, melody is merely a tool for communicating ideas. What is Beethoven saying with this song? That there is hope despite our insignificance? Listen to it and try to understand for yourself. |

Nocturn in E flat Opus 9 no. 2 Frederic Chopin |
A nocturn is a night song. The great Artur Rubenstein played this song as like a lullaby, as though he were calming a child down for bed. I imagine a lonely man walking down a quiet French street on a rainy afternoon. Chopin himself was not trying to paint a scene with this song, but word pictures are a convenient way to describe ideas that are too subtle for words. |
